CREEPY CLASSICS presents...

MOVIE NIGHTS

Every weekend we're watching movies together...whether you're in Pennsylvania USA, or Sydney Australia. It's a throwback! Back to the days when you had the anticipation for waiting till the weekend to see the classic horror or science fiction film that was listed in the TV Guide. The plan is to watch a movie at 7:30PM on Saturday night in your own time zone. Or, if you can't Saturday night...anytime during the weekend. Then, we'll all get together and e-mail our thoughts on the film...a few paragraphs...or simply a sentence if you'd like. They after-viewing reviews appear first on our Creepy Classics/Monster Bash News Page. See the latest thoughts posted by viewers ther now.

This Weekend:

Hi Ron

Glad weeknd movies are back, and startingt things off with the great sci/fi classic,
Not of This Earth...great cast, Bev Garland, Morgan Jones, Dick Miller, and..
old fave, Paul Birch. Its an enjoyable, simple movie that holds your attention from start to finish, Paul Birch plays the strange Mr.Johnson to the hilt. We dont need today's fancy special f/x to acheive that...as usual, great classic stuff. The ending, as in most classic sci/fi horror, is poignant...regards,

J50smonstakid (: aka: Jay Maggio, Kingsman, AZ

For me, seeing Dick Miller as a vacum cleaner sales man is priceless in this film. Bob Pellegrino pointed out to me the line "No flip-flops" spoken by the stoic alien vampire to Miller and it's just hilarious. But that doesn't undermine the fabulous power of this low-budget chiller from Roger Corman. One creepy alien and very unique plot. Notice the similar flying bat-thing in this that is also in Corman's IT CONQUERED THE WORLD. A good one.

Welcome back to the Saturday Movie . This was my suggestion, a Roger Corman 67 minute favorite. I love the script, with its invention of seemingly real words used to explain a complex medical blood disorder and a technological creation like the teleportation system. After all, this is science fiction not science fact.

Beverly Garland is terrific followed closely by Jonathan Haze, both veterans of the Roger Corman "I never lost money on a film" way of doing business. I'll leave the technical reviews to other Monster Bashers out there. To me it's a movie that never drags and its final scene is as creepy as it gets. The new "Mr. Johnson" slowly approaching the unaware couple in a cemetary foreshadows the late Bill Hinzman's Evans City entrance...another favorite.

Jamie liked this one a lot, although he wanted to see more of the flying
umbrella monster. He also wisely noted that if the alien had spent more
time with his eyes on the road and less time saying "Look at my eyes" he
probably could have kept the car from crashing.

It's a campy movie for sure, the aliens look like insurance salesmen and
why did all the aliens in the 1950s talk like William Shatner on Valium?
So slow, so dramatic!

That being said, I did feel a little bit of excitement when the finale
started rolling "Run Beverly Run!" When she finally threw off her high
heels Jamie said "It's about time!"

Except for the cool cat daddy-o vacuum cleaner salesman the acting was
really okay given what they had to work with.

Even with the corny flying monster, the film works. There's a story that
makes sense (in the 1950s sci-fi world at least) the acting is fine and it
clips along at a nice pace. It's never really boring, so I can't really
find too much fault.

I've been reviewing a lot of straight to video film projects in recent
years and actually many of these artists could learn a thing or two from
Corman and company about how to put together an enjoyable film on a
budget.
